About the Author

Paul Shearman is a theatre artist whose work explores performance, identity, memory, reinvention, and second chances. The idea for Simon Calder came while I was thinking about what actors spend their lives doing. Actors spend a lifetime watching people, listening for hesitation, and noticing the tiny details that reveal what words cannot. One day I wondered… What if an actor solved crimes? After spending four decades studying how people reveal themselves on stage, Paul began to notice something. The same tiny hesitations that reveal a character to an audience often reveal a person’s true intentions in everyday life. That observation became Simon Calder. That theatrical instinct lies at the heart of The Calder House Mysteries, where former stage actor Simon Calder discovers that people often reveal the truth in the moments when they think no one is watching. Warm, atmospheric, and emotionally driven, Paul’s mysteries reflect his love of character, community, and stories about people finding their way home, sometimes long after they thought it was too late.
